LARRY PICKS UP "SCOOTER" IN HENRIETTA TEXAS 11-21-09

Today, Saturday, 11-21-09, Larry invited me to ride with him from Wichita Falls Texas down to Four Stars Motorcycle Ranch in Henrietta Texas so he could pick up his Harley Screamin' Eagle Road Glide that Four Stars had serviced for him. Larry was using Sissy's Harley Road King, which is for sale, and he would ride that back to Four Stars, where Sissy works. Having been off my bike since 11-5-09, by doctor's orders, I went AMA (against medical advice), and rode my Harley with Larry on the short 22 mile trip South. Scroll down & join us on this quick ride and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

I rode over to Larry's house to meet Larry. He came out wearing a T-shirt & down filled vest. It was overcast and a wet feeling 50 degrees out and I told him he was gonna freeze his butt off. Here is Larry and Sissy's 05 Harley-Davidson Road King, which is for sale.

Larry took this picture of me & my bike before we headed out. I was wearing my leather jacket & gauntlets and it was still nippy to me...

We head out and are North bound on Henry S. Grace Freeway in Wichita Falls Texas. Here is Larry rolling North

Another of Larry rolling North on Henry S. Grace Freeway

We get to Four Stars Motorcycle Ranch in Henrietta Texas. This is Sissy's bike which she has for sale. This is an 05 Harley Davidson Road King. It is pearl yellow with lime green metal flake & pin striping. It has an Arlen Ness Big Sucker (air breather) and fuel pack.

Sissy on her Road King. It has cruise control, MP3 speakers & new tires. Sissy hooked up her MP3 player to the speakers and cranked up the volume. There was no distortion whatsoever from those speakers & they sounded great!

It has a Harley Davidson factory rebuilt (Milwaukee) 88 cu in engine with only 2,000 miles on it and has a one year unlimited mileage warranty still in effect.

The back view of the Road King

Sissy showing some of the finer points of the Road King to some folks that were looking at the bikes at the dealership today. That is Crazy Mike, directly across from Sissy, closest to the bike.

Some of the extra chrome on the Road King.

The pipes & emblem on the back fender.

The Road King has True Duals Vance & Hines Logshot pipes, black in color. Here is the Vance & Hines logo on the pipes. This bike has only 41,000 miles and Sissy is asking $13,000 but I bet if you talked to her really nice & bought her a coke, she would probably take a little less. If you have a serious inquiry about this outstanding motorcycle, give Sissy a call today at 940-704-9647. It is one heck of a deal on one great looking & riding Harley Davidson.. Put yourself on this bike today and join the Harley Davidson family!!!

While I was talking to Sissy about the Road King, Larry was inside taking care of the paperwork and getting his bike ready to go. This is "Scooter", Larry's Harley Screamin' Eagle Road Glide. I gave Larry his nickname, due to "Scooter". Larry is now Larry A.K.A. Scooter Boy... LOL

Larry & I inside Four Stars Motorcycle Ranch, warming up for the ride back to Wichita Falls. We had run into mist about 2 miles from Four Stars.

Larry had to borrow a jacket for the ride home. Here is Sissy & Larry with a vintage RED RIVER HARLEY DAVIDSON jacket from when RRHD was located in Iowa Park Texas. RRHD is now located in Wichita Falls Texas

This is Sissy & Larry in Sissy's old office. Sissy's new office is located out in the show room, motor clothes area.

Larry reclaims "Scooter" and here is Sissy & Larry prior to our departure back to Wichita Falls Texas.

Crazy Mike & me at Four Stars Motorcycle Ranch in Henrietta Texas. I was talking to Mike & found out he is Matt's (my son) next door neighbor. Small world eh? He has a Windshield bag that I am gonna buy from him for my Harley

Larry as we proceed North up US 287. This will conclude this post. I enjoyed the brief ride today and really needed it.. I enjoyed seeing Larry, Sissy & Charlie today and meeting Crazy Mike. I had seen Mike's Harley at his house when I visited Matt but had not seen Mike. I look forward to riding with Mike and the others whenever the next ride occurs and where ever it takes us.

POSTS DELETED FROM NORTH TEXAS BIKERS III 11-20-09

In order to keep the North Texas Bikers III blog a true biker blog, I am removing the Obama Bowing to Everyone post & the Wal-Mart post. I will repost both on a new blog I am creating, in the next day or two. The North Texas Biker III blog will remain a true biker blog without political posts, unless they have a direct bearing on motorcycles and those that ride them...Ya'll ride safe.....JOHN

WELL CRAP!! WEEK TWO, NO RIDING 11-19-09

Today, Thursday, 11-19-09, I woke up & realized that today marked the two week point of when I was last on the bike riding with friends. Hopefully, this coming Monday, 11-23-09, the doc will cut me loose to ride once again. But, the pressure sore does not look any better to Janice, now, than it did two weeks ago.. And that fricken bums me out...Anyway, I got energetic the other day and wheeled the Harley out into the sunlight & took some pics...Scroll down and see the bikes that have been collecting dust lately and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Apparently, while I was nestled up in bed and covered with my Harley throw blanket, the cat had climbed up on the pillow over my head and went to sleep. Janice took this picture at 6:00 a.m. The cat woke up & started to sit up. Oblivious to it all, I slept on..

I got up and hobbled out to the garage & wiped some of the dust of the bikes. I then wheeled my Harley out into the sunlight & took some pictures. I call the Harley, SO, for Sierra Oscar, which stands for my Significant Other. SO is a 2001 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. I did some research and Harley came out with the Heritage line in 1986. For a timeline on the history of Harley Davidson, see this link: http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/H-D_History/history_1900s.jsp?locale=en_US

RED RIVER HARLEY DAVIDSON was originally in Iowa Park Texas. The oil dipstick cover still has the Iowa Park Texas location on it. Will have to change that out one of these days. RED RIVER HARLEY DAVIDSON, my second home, is now here in Wichita Falls Texas. See this link for more: http://www.redriverharley-davidson.com/

I still have Ms. Clone. She is an 08 Kawasaki 900 Vulcan Classic LT. I have put 33,500 miles on her since January 08 and is an outstanding ride...You'll not get any negative comments from me about this motorcycle..

SO & Ms. Clone back in position awaiting my release so they can go out on the road and do what motorcycles do, bring joy to the riders..

The Vance & Hines logo on the shorts on the Harley. These sound great but are loud. The neighbors are not happy since I brought SO home...
This will conclude this brief post. I'd like ya'll to pray for me that God sees me healed & that I get released to ride Monday..I would appreciate it & I KNOW Janice will be thankful. I haven't been the greatest person to be around since becoming "grounded". Thanks...

MY HARLEY SADDLEBAG FIX 11-18-09

All summer long I had been listening to this Harley fire up, leave & return on the street behind us. The bike sounded great. A few weeks ago, I talked to my good friend Joe, a former co-worker & fellow PGR member, about repairing my vest. He said no problem, and to come over to his house. He then gave me directions and, lo & behold, he lives behind me and that was his bike I had been listening to. So I went over to see Joe & Sherri (his wife). After repairing the vest, we were looking at the bikes and we got to talking about my collapsed saddlebags. Joe showed me some inserts that he had put in his bags and they reshaped the bag.. So, I went home & dwelled on it and did some research in different catalogs looking for these inserts. Scroll down for this brief post and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Here is Joe & his Harley on one of our rides last month

Joe & Sherri at Red River Harley Davidson in Wichita Falls Texas

Joe's saddlebag's had collapsed also and this is how they looked after he put the saddlebag shapers in them. Restored them to their original shape.

So, after searching and talking to others that have had the collapsed bag problems on their Harley's, I was down to two solutions. Solution 1: I could take the saddlebags off the bike and ship them off & for $300, they would get fixed & get longer straps added, or, Solution 2: I could order the Saddlebag Shapers & do it myself. After finding them in various catalogs for $60-$82, I went on Ebay and found them, new for $42. They are the same ones as in the catalogs. So, I ordered them from Saddlebag Shapers out of Cypress Texas, and they arrived today, Wednesday 11-18-09. Here they are, spread out on the floor, while my curious cat sniffs around on them.. Here is the ebay site for the Saddlebag Shapers: http://stores.ebay.com/saddleBag-Shapers

The glue & directions.. Since I am off the bike for a few more days, I will start this project tomorrow, Thursday 11-19-09, and hopefully they will be back in shape for the next ride..

Apparently, this is a problem that is fairly common. I know that when I was deciding on whether or not to get the Harley, the folks at the Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki dealerships all mentioned how the Harley Saddlebags were. To be absolutely fair about it, I have to say that I have had zero problems with the Vulcan's (Ms. Clone) saddlebags & I have put 33,500 miles on her since Jan. 08. But that didn't stop me from buying the Heritage Classic. Here is the mis-shaped & collapsed right saddlebag on my bike as it is now

This is the left saddlebag...

Another view of the right saddlebag

A different view of the right bag

And last but not least, and it has nothing to do with the saddlebags, is a picture of the Vance & Hines logo on my Short pipes. Thought I would throw it in for grins... This will conclude this brief post. Many thanks to Joe for the info on the saddlebags and, hopefully, it will be an easy fix.

THE NEW CAMERA 11-17-09

Back in September, I received an e-mail from the "Vermont Mad Biker" in which he/she stated I needed to improve on my picture taking. (see: http://jjskewlstuff3.blogspot.com/2009/09/hmmm-well-this-is-different-9-9-09.html ). His/her e-mail got me to thinking and the thoughts turned into action and the action finally came to fruition last night. I mentioned in my post that I should get a good camera for the saddlebags and use it for when we are stopped on the rides/runs/events. I would still use my Kodak Easyshare C813 for the rolling highway shots. Scroll down & see what I bought. Geez, ok, ok, Janice bought it for me and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Since I still have almost a week before the doc cuts me loose to ride again, I will spend the time learning the new camera inside & out because this thing has a TON of features to it..

http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Digital-Camera/26171/COOLPIX-P90.html

This is my new camera, a Nikon P-90 Coolpix Digital camera.

The size is like that of the SLR camera's and works just like one only it's digital & doesn't use the 35 mm film.. The front view..

The top view

The back view. I found this youtube video about the camera & it would be easier for you to watch than for me to explain the functions of this camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6zvxuPLpQY . I might also add that this camera is not a high priced camera and is in reach of most folks pocketbooks. It has that new face recognition/blink technology too. (Detects smiles and when people blink). So, now I have to thank the Vermont Mad Biker for planting the seed on this. I appreciate it. I will now return to the 192 page user guide and learn this thing and when I get back on the Harley again, I will take it on the next ride & see how it goes.

Tulsa Oklahoma 2009 Veteran's Day Parade (Keith's Pic's) 11-15-09

Due to a foot problem, I am off the bike until 11-23-09. Knowing I won't be riding or taking pics, my good friend Keith, up in Tulsa Oklahoma, has been helping out this blog and sending me ride pics to post. On Veterans Day, 11-11-09, he rode in the Tulsa Oklahoma Veteran's Day Parade. The following pics & descriptions are providing by Keith & used with his permission. Additions to his descriptions in parentheses are mine & are so noted:

I have been riding almost every day. I want to tell you about the parade I rode in . It was a very memorable experience.

I rode with the American Legion Riders of Post I. I have been a member with the ride group for about a year. Tulsa's American Legion Post 1 was chartered on June 19, 1919 — three months after the post in Paris was founded. We are the oldest, continuously operated American Legion post in the United States. Riding in the Veterans parade with this Post was an Honor.

(for more on the American Legion Riders Post 1 Tulsa Oklahoma, see this link: http://www.tulsapost1.com/riders/riders.html ..John)

We had breakfast at the VFW about 08:30 hrs. My black shiny, sparkling Harley in front of the VFW. The white Harley behind mine is a good friend's bike. Neal is an Air Force Vet and we ride almost every where together. I still ride black & white, HA! You met him at the PGR mission in Purcell. We both took the day off without pay to ride in the parade.

After breakfast we were standing outside talking to some vets with the PGR and I noticed this man looking at my bike. He stood at my bike for about 5 minutes and was really looking it over. I walked over and introduced myself and was I surprised when I saw his ribbons and his hat. He is a survivor of Pearl Harbor. We talked for quite a while. He had me explain all about my bike (what this was and what that did). I told him that it was an honor to have visited with him and we plan on talking again.

Two of the PGR ride captains in the parking lot of the American Legion. Notice the PGR flag. This is the one that we signed in Purcell. I found our names on it.
(see this link for more of the PGR Purcell Mission:
http://jjskewlstuff3.blogspot.com/2009/08/pgr-mission-purcell-oklahoma-8-30-09.html JOHN)

After a staging briefing and a prayer, all Vets were asked to stay for a presentation. Two Blue Star Mothers wanted to give us all a very special coin. It was a Vietnam Veteran Thank You coin. It is a beautiful high quality medallion. Both ladies addressed us and it was very emotional for everyone. I received the 2nd coin handed out and when I received it I held on to her hand and pulled her to me for a great big hug. That was all it took , tears ran from both of our eyes.

Uncle Sam told Neal that he had looked him up with the IRS and it looked to him that Neal was in pretty good shape. He told me I was in trouble

Staging downtown. We were to be first in the parade after the dignitaries and the command staff. Marine Corps on the left, and the PGR was behind us. You can see the PGR flag

Former Prisoners of War. Being in the front of the parade means we finished first and now I could watch the parade. I stopped at the end and parked next to one of the Police bikes. Since I was getting to stand in the middle of the street, when this group walked by, I walked over and shook their hands

The dignitaries were all in these small foreign cars, yes! The lady on the left walking is a District Judge now in drug court. I worked with her when she was a prosecutor in the DA's office

A group of school children that did not want to just watch the parade, they wanted to participate.

Do not remember exactly which group this was. John, I do not know if I told you that my Great Grandfather was in Company F of the 3rd US Cavalry. He was a MOH recipient during the Indian wars.
(For our out of country viewers & those not familiar with the initials MOH: it stands for the Medal Of Honor. It is the highest military award given for bravery under fire by the United States during war time conditions. It is also sometimes referred to as the CMOH, for Congressional Medal Of Honor. for more on the Medal Of Honor & it's recipient's see these links: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_of_Honor & www.history.army.mil/moh.html

These VFW bag pipe playing Vets were at our Legion dinner after the parade.
This will conclude this post. Thank you, Keith, for the great pics & descriptions & permission to use these on the blog. For all you viewers that live in a free society, might I suggest that you seek out a Veteran in your country, talk to them and thank them for the service & sacrifices to your country that they gave, enabling you to have the freedom that you now enjoy. I want to thank our Veterans here in the USA for their service & sacrifice to the country & for all it's citizens, in keeping us free & out of harm's way. God Bless you all!!

FAYETTEVILLE BOOZE, BLUES & BBQ BIKE RALLY (KEITH'S PICS) 9-26-09

On Saturday, 9-26-09, Keith & his wife, Sheila, got on their Harley Ultra, met up with some friends, and headed out from Tulsa Oklahoma enroute to Fayetteville Arkansas for the 10th Annual Booze, Blues & BBQ Bike Rally. According to the U.S. Census, the population of Fayetteville is a little over 67,000 folks. The bike rally brings an additional 400,000 + bikes to the city. As a matter of fact, they had to move the rally to the city's south side for more room. I had to delete the original post on this due to the number of pic's & descriptions Keith sent me on the follow up email. It would of taken me a long time to edit them in. It was easier to redo the post. I apologize to those of you who had commented on the post but I could not re insert your comments. I invite you to post another comment.. The following are Keith's photo's of the Rally and are used with his permission. Scroll down and enjoy some of the sites of the 2009 Fayetteville Arkansas Booze, Blues & BBQ Bike Rally. REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURES..

We left Tulsa and flew down Hwy 412 East to Springdale, Ark. We hit Hwy 71A Southbound to Fayetteville. We were not sure exactly which exit to take to get to the events set up South of town. It was easy enough to figure out with all the motorcycles everywhere. All these bikes looked like they knew where they were going. If not, I was not going to be the only person lost. So I followed them East on Hwy 180.

After making 3 passes thru the parking lot, we found this spot to park in. Sheila is putting up the helmets and getting her purse. We are in the lot just East of all the BBQ and vendors tents.
(For more on this event, see: http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/)..John

Another group next to us had just arrived also.

From where we parked, this is a view looking West at all the vendors.

Another view looking west

Sheila likes this tank because it looked 3-d

Another group of bikers

A view West towards the tents. We are starting to get close. I am going to the first food vendor I see. I am starving

Before we cross the street I look back towards the bikes.

I had these fine officers stop the traffic so I could hurry and get up to the food vendor's. I showed them my badge and asked if they knew where the donuts were. They said they were all gone but they did point me in the direction of the best BBQ around. The officers were in great spirits for someone standing in the street with 200,000 + bikes roaring by all day.

Bikes coming in

And bikes going out

Yeah, we finally are where it's at

Sheila had a Manhattan sandwich . They put sliced brisket and cole slaw on a bun with sauce, onion and pickles. Sheila loved it. Me , I am old fashioned. I just ordered a whole slab of ribs and a beer. We found a curb to sit on and I ate the whole thing. Sheila had to go get me another beer because I could not get up after eating so much. That’s alright, I ride a big bike and it will hold the extra weight

One of the bike dealers out there. I believe these are Big Dog bikes

Looking down one of the rows of tents. Bike patches, leathers & all type accessories. Motorcycle dealers , custom painters, you name it and it was there. Had one of the patch people sew upside down, a jane fonda Traitor Bitch patch on my second vest. First vest already has one on it.

We are leaving the area to go up to Dickson St. for the rest of the fun

Sheila sitting on the ground in the parking lot behind their Harley Ultra Classic...

When we got back to my bike , this home made trike was next to me.

I would ride this everywhere

Standing at my bike, Sheila was gearing up and I took another photo of all the bikes that had come in since we arrived. I was lucky I could find my bike, as there were thousands of them everywhere.

Another view to the West down the line of bikes in the parking lot

Green is not my choice of colors but this does look good

Nice home built trailer. I saw a lot of trailers and there was even a trailer dealer out here

This trike was parked next to Keith's Ultra when they got back to the bike...

We stopped and got something to drink here because I was tired of paying a small fortune for a beer or Pepsi at the tents..

Traffic was backed up ½ mile before we finally got to turn on Dickson St. This was the first parking lot we saw. We are at the far east end of everything but I looked ahead and all I saw was bikes. We decided it was better to walk. Besides I wanted to get a beer

Parking lot where I parked

We have walked West for about 2 blocks when I stopped, turned around looking back to where I parked and took this photo..

Welcome to the start of Bikes Blues and BBQ

I am looking West down Dickson St. it goes for about ½ mile or about 10 blocks
Bikes are backed up to the curb on both sides of the road...

Most all of these building were bars and restaurants

If you would stand right here, you would see this action all day

bikes were everywhere!!

Looking down Dickson St

We have almost walked to the West end when I took this photo looking back East

My camera battery went dead. This sweet heart found me a battery and was extreamly helpful. I told her that her photo would be published and she was so excited she told me to make sure the battery works by taking more photos of her. This is a pharmacy toward the East end of Dickson st.

This is in front of the pharmacy, looking at all the people passing by. Sheila and I decided to sit on the steps and rest awhile. We had walked West on the South side of the road, came back up East on the north side of the road. With all the side street vendors and the 1 mile walk, we probably did 2+ miles all together

It has been one hell of a day. We both had a great time and are going to do 2 or 3 days of it next year. I will take vacation and we will find a place to park our RV a week in advance. Then, comes time for the event, we will ride the bike up from Tulsa.

This is looking East toward College St

As we are heading back to the bikes I turned around facing West. We are looking down Dickson St. Those tents on the left were all over the place.
This will conclude this post. Many thanks to Keith for the photo's & descriptions and permission to use them as a post on this blog. I got a call from a a good friend, Billy, who happened to be in Fayetteville visiting his grand kids, when the rally was going on. He told me to mark my calendar for next year becausewe were gonna ride up, stay with his kids in Fayetteville and attend the rally. I am so looking forward to that. We will get with Keith & Sheila and have a great post about it...
