Dustin & Amy take SO for a ride 5-29-10

Saturday, 5-29-10, all the kids came over to hang out at the house. After a few minutes, my son-in-law, Dustin, asked me if I wanted him to charge the battery up on the Harley. I had asked him back in March if he would come over once a week and take my bike for a spin so as to keep the fluids flowing and the battery charged until I could ride again.. It was sunny out, about 92 degrees and a light breeze, perfect for riding. I told him to have fun. My daughter, Amy, his wife, went with him. Scroll down for the brief post of them leaving and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Dustin & Amy putting on the helmets before backing the bike out of the garage.

Dustin maneuvering the bike out of the garage between the cars & pickups parked in the driveway.

Once in the street, Dustin adjusts the choke and fires the Harley up.

Dustin & Amy saddle up and are ready to head out.

I told them to have fun, don't dump the bike and cya later.

With that being said and the Harley warmed up enough to leave, they set off down the street. Dustin's Dad has a Harley and I think he is selling it. Maybe he will sell it to Dustin.
This will conclude this post. Dustin & Amy came back about an hour later and both had the "Harley grin" on their faces.

ECTOR GETS A HARLEY!! 5-29-10

Yesterday, Friday, 5-28-10, I got a call from a good friend of ours, Ector. He wanted to know if I was gonna be home in the afternoon because he wanted to show me something. Ector is one of those people that have the God given gift of hand carving. He can take a tree limb or chunk of wood and make a masterpiece out of it. He also paints (he's an artist too) and does leather work. So, I thought he was coming over to show me a carving or something. So, scroll down and see what Ector wanted to show me and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE

You can imagine my surprise, when I went out and Ector showed me his Harley he had just bought (for a song & a dance, I might add).

Ector & I had been trying to hook up and go on some runs but something always seemed to prevent it. Now, he is ready to go. He took the motorcycle course out at Vernon College, got his m/c endorsement & finally found a great deal on a bike. This is a 2005 Harley Custom Sportster 1200 cc. He has that bike clean and shiny!!

Here is Ector over at the house.

Ector is on the North Texas Bikers ride notification list and is ready to do some good rides. I, of course, am still grounded by the Doc until July 7th, then I will be able t0 ride with him. But you will be seeing him on this blog as he starts riding with us.

Ector getting ready to head out. He was pretty comfortable even though it was 95 degrees out

Here is another pic of Ector getting ready to go. I gave him a Gremlin Bell that I took off of my Harley when Russ got me a new bell. SO, the bell has been on 3 bikes since it was put to work in 2001. It protected 3 of us and now, it will protect Ector.. Besides, Ector is now a part of the brotherhood and it's staying in the family, as it were

Ector fired up the Harley and it had a real good sound.

And here is Ector leaving the house for parts unknown. Ride Safe, Bro!!

I mentioned at the beginning of this post that Ector was an artist with wood, paintings, leatherworks etc. He made me a beautiful cane several years back and he also makes those Indian flutes as well as an assortment of other items. Janice told me that on his lunch hour, Ector will go to the stairwell at city hall and play soothing songs on the flute.. So, whatever your needs are, contact him and see if he can fulfill your request. I will personally vouch for him. He is a good engineer, an Outstanding artist and a great friend.
This will conclude this post. Thank you Ector for coming over and showing me your new ride. It won't be long until I get cut loose and then we will do some riding!!

CAST OFF!!!!! 5-26-10

Today, Wednesday, 5-26-10, at 2:15 p.m., I went to the Doc and got the cast off!! I have been in that thing since March 8. Scroll down and see the final cast pictures and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK THE PICTURE.
The nurse fires up the saw and begins removing the cast.

After cutting the inside portion, she has me turn to the left so she can get the outside done.

The cast is off and here is the foot. Healed up pretty good. The inside

The outside. This incision site had healed up a lot better that the inside did.

The Doc said the small area, where the wound didn't quite heal yet, was no problem and it would heal later on.

Here I am, waiting for the Doc to come into the cast room. I am hopeful that he will put me in a "walking boot" and not another cast.

Here is Janice, who is more hopeful than I that the Doc doesn't put on another cast. I guess I haven't been the greatest person to be around since the cast was put on March 8th.

Here is the X-ray from the inside.

Here is the X-ray from the top

An X-ray with the foot tilted inward

The X-rays are now read on the computer. I remember when they would bring the X-rays into the room and put them on that lighted screen and read them from there.

The X-rayed foot. The Doc says he will check the foot again on July 7th. If all is well, then he will cut me loose and I will be on the bike & in the wind again!!!

Here is my full weight bearing walking boot. Doc says he will check the toes in 9 months to a year and if they aren't straightened out, then he will go in and break, pin & plate them. But he didn't appear to be concerned about it..
This will conclude this post. Thank you all, from around this Earth, for your support & prayers during this time. I really appreciated it and it helped me keep from getting cabin fever. Well, for the most part, anyway.. lol
Please scroll down for more rides, events & runs and remember to click on the OLD POSTS link at the bottom of EACH page for more of the same.

Also if you would pray for Lance & his wife, Pattie. Both were injured in a motorcycle accident (rear tire blew out on his Harley) down in Abilene Texas. Pattie was released from the hospital with cuts, bumps & bruises. Lance is still in the hospital and had surgery on his broken right shoulder today. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated by Lance & Pattie and all of us who ride with & love this couple.

PRAY FOR SISSY 5-9-10

Most of you regular viewers of North Texas Bikers blogs, are familiar with Sissy. She & the other local folks took me under their wings when I got my latest bike back in 2008. Back then Sissy was riding a yellow Harley Road King. Last year, she bought the candy apple red 2009 Harley Tri-Glide that most of the viewers recognize her on now. Friday, Sissy was diagnosed with Malignant Colon Cancer. She is getting ready to undergo six weeks of radiation & then surgery.

Sissy on her beloved Harley Trike on one of our many excursions up to Oklahoma. Sissy has been very active in the motorcycle community, here in the North Texas & Southern Oklahoma area. She is responsible for coordinating many, many rides & events here and has helped raise a lot of money for various charities and organizations.

Sissy in Decatur Texas a couple of weeks ago. Sissy is very active in the Broken Chains Freedom Church (Biker Church) here in Wichita Falls Texas. She has requested prayer for her situation as she knows that prayer works and God is still in the business of answering prayer and working miracles. I know that God hears us when we pray one on one. I really KNOW He will hear us, if all the viewers to this blog around the world, pray for her. She has stated she will use her healing to the glory of God and if you know Sissy like we all know Sissy, then you know she will. Most important, God knows she will.
Won't you all join us in praying for Sissy. It is often said that bikers are just a large family. Well, one of our sisters needs us, so let's lift her up in prayer. Thank you all and RIDE SAFE.....JOHN
